Project Final Conference, Bruxelles 24 November 2006
S3 project closed with a one-day conference in Brussels (24th November 2006), where S3 project partners illustrated, to a public composed of representatives of European regions, the results achieved during 2 years of fruitful joint work on the analysis and exchange of selected practices financed with SFs.
The conference programme was divided into four main topics: focus on the project, focus on individual experiences, focus on the transferability of experiences, lessons learnt.
A representative of the East Joint Technical Secretariat also took part in the event, contributing to the final debate on lessons learnt and the future of interregional co-operation.
Dissemination event in Patras, Western Greece, 18 November 2006
The Region of Western Greece in co-operation with BIC of Western Greece organised a dissemination event entitled "European experiences on Structural Funds co-financed programmes - Prospects for development through the 4th Community Support Framework". The event focused on the illustration of a number of good practices implemented in the period 2000-2006. 3 of them were presented and exchanged within S3. This initiative took place in the frame of a wider happening called "Money Show" (http://www.moneyshowpatras.gr), which enabled the attraction of a greater number of participants and raised the visibility of S3 presented practices.
Dissemination event in Sheffield, South Yorkshire, 3 November 2006
The Objective 1 Programme Directorate in South Yorkshire held a dissemination event to share lessons learnt during the S3 project with regional colleagues involved in the management of Structural Funds.
An introduction to S3 was provided, looking at the structure, funding and activity undertaken during the project period. This was followed by an extensive presentation concerning the 11 experiences that were analysed and shared by the partners during the project. Specific mention was made to the key findings for South Yorkshire and to areas where there could be benefit to the Yorkshire and Humber region to adopt experiences, tools and methodologies.
People with direct experience in managing and using Structural Funds attended the event including staff from local authorities and the Regional Development Agency, which will be the delivery agency (as an Intermediary Body) for the Yorkshire and The Humber Competitiveness ERDF programme (2007-13).
The seminar, jointly organised by the Madrid Institute of Public Administration and the Madrid Regional administration, meant to create a one day forum to discuss on the future of regional programmes funded with Structural Funds. New Community regulations were illustrated and commented and a number of good practices, implemented in the period 2000-2006, were presented to seminar participants. S3 was included among the successful practices implemented by Madrid Region in the frame of 2000-2006 Territorial co-operation. Moreover, one of the practices exchanged within S3, the one presented by Objective 1 Programme Directorate of South Yorkshire, was illustrated as an innovative and effective experience, with specific regard to modalities of partnership building and management.
The Ostrava regional development agency organised a seminar entitled "Preparation of Czech regions for structural funds programming period 2007-2013".
The seminar addressed two main aspects: the state of the art of the programming period in 3 different EU regions (Regional operational programme 2007-13 of Silesian Voivodship, Poland; Structural funds programming in Silesia-Moravia, Czech Republic; the involvement of Kosice Self-governing region in the 2007-2013 programming period, Slovak Republic), and the in-depth description of relevant approaches drawn from four of the practices exchanged within S3. The presentation of these practices was targeted on the specific interests of seminar participants.
On 8th September 2006 the Ignalina Nuclear Power Plant Region organised a workshop in order to disseminate knowledge on two of the good practices analysed within S3 project. Participants were representatives of regional institutions, local authorities, business information centres, business incubator. Most of participants had taken part in a number of study visits organised from February to July 2006 in the framework of the Networking people Component
Seminar programme (inserire l'agenda)
On 21 April 2006, a seminar was held in Barcelona, entitled "Programming and Management of Structural Funds 2007-2013 - Local and Regional Perspectives" and jointly organised by S3 and by the Interreg IIIC West operation "Sub-Regional Regeneration Network - SRN".
A key objective was to raise awareness of the complementary role of regional and sub-regional organisations in the management and delivery of EU Structural Funds and especially to consider how lessons from the current programming period can be integrated in the programming and management mechanisms for the period 2007-13.

A number of practices, analysed within S3 project, were presented to seminars participants, composed of representatives of national and regional institutions involved in the 2007-2013 SF programming phase, and other stakeholders from the business community. The experiences were illustrated in a way to underline lessons learnt during the current programming period and thus be less theoretical and more effective.
Presentation of S3 project at the SRN Network Mid-Term Seminar, held in Santa Cruz de Tenerife
01-02/12/2005, Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Spain. - S3 has been invited to the SRN Network Mid-Term Seminar, a meeting organised by the Interreg IIIC "SRNeuropa.net", which focuses on the "Effective Use and Delivery of Structural Funds and regeneration Programmes in Sub-Regional Areas". Such meeting aimed at illustrating to the SRN network partners the work done and project findings to date, and offered the opportunity to widen the discussion to the perspectives of Interreg Programme and to the management of Structural Funds in the next programming period. The Seminar hosted two on-going Interreg IIIC projects, namely: "Compete - Sharing best practice in European City Regions" and "S3 - Sharing Solutions on Structural Funds". Both projects have many elements in common with the "SRNeuropa.net" projects, and these have clearly emerged during project presentations.
S3 has been selected for the “Challenges for interregional co-operation” Session of the Open Days (Session 11C08)
10-13/10/2005, Bruxelles - S3 has been selected for the "Challenges for interregional co-operation" Session of the Open Days (Session 11C08). The Open days are organised by the Committee of the Regions and DG Regional Policy with the scope of discussing next programming period most relevant issues, also to facilitate New member States in the preparatory phase.

Scope of the presentation was to disseminate information about the project and to enlarge the project partnership in view of the preliminary phase of next programming period.

08 and 09/09/2005, Košice (Slovak Republic) - Košice self governing region has organised this event to illustrate the preparation process of the National strategic reference framework for the 2007-2013 period in Slovak Republic and to discuss the issues, challenges and opportunities for the development of regions in Slovakia.
Territorial Integrated Projects in Campania: a tool for development
23/06/2005 , Napoli - Territorial Integrated Projects in Campania: a tool for development. Campania Region has organised this event to disseminate the results and the activities carried out through the TIPs, which represent an innovative way of using Structural Funds, both at programming and management level. Integrated programming has been a challenge for the region, but it also is a great opportunity to build the regional identity - and its economic development - around the potentialities of its territories. Territorial Integrated Projects have been selected by Campania Region as a best practice in the framework of S3 project and have raised large interest among both member states and new member states partners. They represent a fourth of the total 2000-2006 ROP financial resources and have allowed Regione Campania to integrate different funds to pursue development goals and to involve local actors in the programming phase.
Information and Publicity of the activities cofinanced by Structural Funds
02/03/2005, Madrid (Spain) - The DG for State Co-operation and European Affairs of the Madrid Regional Government has organised, with the collaboration of the European Commission and in the framework of S3 project a European Seminar on Information and Publicity of the activities cofinanced by Structural Funds. The Seminar's objectives were to share innovative experiences in the field of information and publicity of Structural Funds and to exchange best practices between European Regions of the S3 project and Spanish regions. The results of the thematic evaluation on information and publicity carried out by Madrid Region have also been presented, thus widening the extent of the network of innovative experiences shared within S3.
